Images Make EVERYTHING Better

Blog Post 4 When making my blogs, I always make sure to include a picture. Pictures make everything look more lively! They can bring any long and boring text to life. I think that adding a picture to any text can totally change the perspective of the viewer in response to its contents. It has the ability to    make a more long lasting impact on them. This idea is true in response to the text, the Convention of Rights of the Child. There are two versions one of which is a very long text. Although it contains very useful information many people just aren't drawn to read it. However the other version, the photo essay, the pictures capture the eye of the reader making it more likely that they will read it. These pictures allow the reader to feel more of a connection to whatever it is they are reading. This is certainly true in the photo essay version of the Convention of Rights of the Child. The pictures of the children make it easier for the reader to feel a connection and und

Children and Violent Media

Blog Post 3  According to Gerard Jones, violent media can actually have positive effects on young people because it gives them an outlet to express their emotions into. Jones also believes that violent media is a positive influence on children because it helps them find their true identity thus giving them better communication skills.Violent media has the potential to be really good for those kid who find it hard to fit in. Jones makes some good points. For example, he says that comics are what helped him find both his career and identity. However, pop psychologist argue that violent media is actually damaging for kids. They believe this because of the  school shootings  that have recently taken place. They think that this bad behavior can all be tied back to their viewing of violent media as young kids. All in all, I think that there is a healthy balance in the viewing of violent media. It gives children a way of expressing all of their emotions. Not limiting violent media

How To: Argue

Blog Post 2 Arguments play an important role in our everyday lives. People argue because they believe they know best. They can even be as small as a debate with a friend over who would be a better addition to the soccer team. Notice the word debate, in the previous sentence. An argument consist of something that is DEBATABLE & two opposing sides. In order to have a strong argument you need two things: Strong evidence for your views and strong evidence against the other side. Being able to support your side is very important but the inability to discover why the other side is “wrong” weakens your argument. Throwing your views/opinions at someone is not an effective way to argue. In fact, it’s not even technically considered an argument at that point. The best way to have an argument is to calmly discuss both sides allowing each side to state their main point (in an essay this would be considered the thesis). Listening is a key part in having a good/positive way of arguing.
